Computer Science Courses

Computer Science at Pearl River Community College offers a structured introduction to logic and multi-dimensional thinking. The skills transfer to other disciplines such as science, English, and the social sciences. The term "computational thinking"* was coined by Jeannette Wing, Head of the Computer Science Department at Carnegie Mellon University as a means to describe how computer science is revolutionizing not only all the sciences, but impacting every aspect of our lives in the 21st century. Computer science is not just about programming, but about thinking.

Pearl River Community College offers several courses to begin college level computing, depending on previous experiences. For students not majoring in a computer-related field, the CSC 1113 course meets Pearl River Community College's computer literacy requirement and provides a practical computer foundation for students transferring to four-year colleges and universities.

Programming courses, provided for mathematics, engineering, and computer-related majors, introduce students to problem solving, algorithm development, computer programming, and a breadth of other topics from Computer Science. We invite all majors to explore the programming classes.
