Note

When considering graduation requirements, always consult the appropriate four-year school catalog.

Graduation Requirements

Associate's Degree

In order to be awarded an Associate in Arts degree, students must complete a minimum of 3 hours in mathematics. Those three hours must be at the level of College Algebra (MAT 1313) or above.

MAT 1313 - College Algebra

Algebraic operations, linear and quadratic equations, systems of equations, complex numbers, polynomials, rational expressions, logarithms, exponents, determinants and applicants. Three lecture hours per week.

Bachelor's Degree

Students should consult the catalog for the four-year school to which they plan to transfer for complete and accurate degree requirements.

In general, all four-year degrees require College Algebra. Some degrees require a total of 6 hours in mathematics. Trigonometry can be used to meet this requirement.

MAT 1323 - Trigonometry

Trigonometric functions and their inverses, trigonometric identities and equations, solutions of triangles, and logarithms. Three lecture hours per week.

Pearl River offers seven mathematics courses at a higher level than College Algebra. These courses are generally for math and science majors. However, students meeting the prerequisites for these courses are welcome to take them as an elective.
